Loop Card Games

The 2 day MAV (Mathematics Association of Victoria) Conference is over! It was again an excellent opportunity to network with other Mathematics teachers. I attended some excellent sessions and picked up a lot of new teaching ideas.

Two of the sessions I attended used “Loop Card Games”. Karen Boyce from Irymple SC challenged us to complete a set of integer operation cards in under two minutes. She used an onscreen timer such as online-stopwatch. Unfortunately we took 2:12. Karen says she repeats the activity (students get different card/s) until the time target is reached.

To find examples of this type of activity Google – “loop cards” or “follow me cards” or “I have who has”. Mathwire has a good selection while SEN Teacher has an excellent flash utility with built in samples and the ability to make your own.

Have you used loop cards? How successful was it?

Thanks Karen for your MAV session – I will feature some of your other ideas in future posts!
